Please attend Part 1 of the Lecture Series tomorrow, if you want to find out the secret sauce of success and whether it be learned and adapted. Clarification: Sorry to disappoint some of you, but Angela Duckworth will NOT give the lecture. The lecture will be delivered by Danith Ly, with a focus on her work. Part 1 of the lecture series explores the historical development of ideas about success and achievement, asking a central question: What are the key ingredients of success, and can they be learned? It traces major psychological perspectives—from intelligence and achievement motivation to self-efficacy and human agency—before focusing on Angela Duckworth’s concept of grit: the combination of passion and perseverance in pursuing long-term goals. The lecture examines whether qualities such as grit, resilience, motivation, and persistence are innate or can be developed through experience, practice, and mindset.
