We warmly invite you to join the Khmer Pride Webinar Series featuring Prof. Khatharya Um, a pioneering Cambodian American scholar and professor at UC Berkeley. From her journey as a Cambodian refugee to becoming the first Cambodian American woman to earn a PhD and the first Cambodian to join the faculty of the University of California system, Prof. Um’s story is one of courage, perseverance, and breaking barriers.

Through her talk, “Upstream: Personal Reflections on a Journey Through American Higher Education,” she will share lessons from her remarkable personal and academic journey—the challenges she faced, the obstacles she overcame, and the wisdom she gained along the way. We especially encourage Cambodian youths around the world to join us. Her story is a powerful reminder that where we begin does not determine how far we can go—and that with education, resilience, and courage, we can create paths that future generations can follow.
